This is our sixth time tattooing at this show. This year we may as well have had wings.
The Eternal Crew threw their 17th Annual Motor City Tattoo Expo last weekend. A finely tuned machine, and a seemingly effortless production for the staff. Considering that they also throw an icy-smooth show in Texas, (14 years in the polishing), Tramp and his crew may as well take over the Big Three while they’re up there. Tramp, if anyone, could repave the streets of Detroit in gold.
Artists from Japan, the UK, Spain, Canada, and the entire USA hung their colors and extended handshakes. Considering that this is an invite-only show (by a handshake from Tramp), the range of styles is full spectrum but the level of talent is exclusively top-end.
This show is about business. Old friends meld their minds, swap ideas, trade tech secrets, and introduce their new styles. A dependable MC kept the days moving and timely, the competitions were judged, and all the top magazines and editors were in house to make sure the world knows about Detroit.
The Voluta Tattoo family was spread all over the planet this year. Dina was in the islands (awesome), Laura Black was home with a new baby (adorable), so Gerrit and Michele and Conan rocked it this year. Neil came up with us to help run things, and we met lots of our clients and tattoo family up there to be good at beers. We all threw our backs into the work of getting to Detroit, setting up, meeting and greeting the eager crowd, and laughing hard into the wee hours at day’s end.
